On September 23 to 26, the 20^th National Congress of Pediatrics of Chinese Medical Association in 2015 was held in Xiamen. In the afternoon on September 24, Biostime Institute of Nutrition and Care (BINC) held the symposium of “Infant and Young Child Nutrition & Gastrointestinal Health”. Over 200 pediatric experts and scholars were invited to participate inthe session, where they shared excellent speeches and latest research results.

Introduction of BINC Scientific Research Fund and Industrial Exchanges Progress

Mr. Patrice Malard, the chief technical officer of Biostime, and Ms. Xu Sa, the R & D Director of Biostime, introduced the development situations of BINC, in which the BINC foundation have been initiated successfully. One million yuan has been funded in the first year for five scientific research projects from scientific research institutions such as the affiliated hospitals in Peking University and Tongji Medical College of HUST. BINC has actively participated in industrial exchanges, and has been deeply involved in the National Nutrition Congress of China Nutrition Society, National Congress of Pediatrics of Chinese Medical Association, Annual Meetingof Chinese Society of Dermatology, and National Academic Congress of Psychology. The institute also held the annual symposium in this June, with the subject of “Comprehensive Solutions for Maternal and child ‘s Health”, and nearly a hundred of international experts from the fields of nutrition, care and psychology were invited to share inter-disciplinary opinions, which led to fruitful results.

The most remarkable things in the symposium was that BINC invited Prof. Cui Hong, the director of Pediatric Department from Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, to publish the latest research outcomes of the “Clinical Study of the Feeding Effects of Biostime SN-2 PLUS Affinity and Balance Formula Milk Powder on Chinese Infants”. As the first clinicalstudy evaluating the effects of Biostime SN-2 PLUS Affinity and Balance Formula Milk Powder for Chinese infants, the excellent research results sparked wide interests and in-depth exchanges of the participated experts, and also brought hopes for the implementation of more high-value researches carried by the BINC.

Research progress of microbiota in pediatric application

Dr. Chen Liang, the manager of Biostime medicine andclinical research, shared the latest progress of intestinal microbiota research in pediatric application. The report included the influencing factors for the establishment of infant gastrointestinal microbiota, the application researchof microbiota in NEC of premature infant, as well as the international research progress of the new research hotspot of human milk oligosaccharides for the prevention of NEC in recent years. Dr. Chen also introduced the research platform of BINC microbiota and breast milk, and appealed to the pediatric researchers.to the co-promote the research in this field
