On June 4, 2015, the 2015 first semi-annual Biostime Institute of Nutrition and Care (BINC) science consultant meeting was held in Hangzhou. During the one-day meeting, the experts and consultants of BINC successfully selected the first batch of projects to be financially aided by carefully reviewing the results of first session of BINC fund bidding, and carried outin-depth exchanges and discussions regarding the progress of related disciplines as well as the BINC’s research directions in the future.

When Mr. Patrice Malard, the scientific consultant of BINC, delivered the welcoming speech in the morning, he indicated that the science consultant meeting was of great significance as the results of the first session of BINC fund bidding would go through the final review, and the first batch of projects to be funded would be determined in the meeting. Afterwards, Ms. Li Dongyan, the executive supervisor of BINC, outlined the development of BINC since its establishment in last September, where she particularly mentioned the heated response from the industry to the bidding information published via multiple channels involving with the first session of BINC fund bidding. Ms.Li also revealed the plan for a series of meetings on the schedule of this year, including the first BINC annual symposium to be held in the next day. The participating experts and consultants of BINC expressed their great satisfaction and approval towards the BINC’s rapid development and heated response obtained in such a short time after its founding, and also showed their hopes towards abetter development of BINC in the future.

The final review for the first session of BINC fund bidding was completed efficiently with an outcome satisfying the experts

During the final review of BINC funding applications, the experts and consultants carefully processed with the evaluation strictly following the evaluation standard and procedures and also, in the reference with the expert opinions obtained from the review-by-letter procedure. In the final evaluation, decision was made by votes from the experts on whether an application was finally able to win the funding, and a detailed revision suggestion was given for each of the applications. Prof. Bo Lonnerdal sang high praise for this final evaluation for the fund bidding due to its high efficiency and the great value of the revision suggestions for the applicants to modify their research protocols before the startof their projects. Prof. Yu Huimin expressed his views that although this wasthe first session of BINC fund bidding, the response was very positive and application organizations from a wide range of areas were involved, reflecting the great enthusiasm of the applicants. Moreover, a number of high quality projects in terms of research subjects and contents in bidding documents were submitted for the fund bidding from the applicants. Dr. Xu Sa said that the high level of the projects from the fund application proposals guaranteed the success of the first session of BINC fund bidding in this year, laying a solid foundation for the works in the future.

After the final review for BINC fund bidding was completed, the experts and consultants shared their views in details about the implementation, follow-up and quality control after initiation of the projects to be funded by BINC, and expressed their expectations for these projects to be completed successfully with valuable research outcomes being achieved. The experts and consultants also carried out an in-depth exchange towards the progress of related disciplines and the research directions of BINC in the future. Prof. Su Yixiang indicated that BINC science consultant meeting gathered the experts in various fields from home and abroad, which offered a precious opportunity for them to exchange their ideas and thoughts on maternal and child health. As BINC research fund was able to promote the research and academic exchanges regarding thenutrition, nursing and psychology of Chinese women and children, it was her wish that BINC research fund could have a sustainable and sound development in the future.
